  8. The PrintOMatic Xtra is the premier printing tool for Macromedia Director and
  9. Authorware. PrintOMatic adds a full set of page-layout, text and graphics
  10. printing features to Director 5, Director 6, and Authorware 4 projects on
  11. Macintosh and Windows. 
  12.  
  13. This is only a brief "Read Me" file. The full documentation for PrintOMatic can
  14. be printed from the demo movie PMATIC.DIR, or viewed from the on-line help file
  15. available from the Director menu item  "Xtras -> PrintOMatic -> PrintOMatic
  16. Help"

  19. Installing the PrintOMatic Xtra
  20. -------------------------------

  22. Simply drag the entire PMATIC directory into Director's XTRAS directory, and 
  23. launch Director. The PMATIC directory should contain the following files:
  24.  
  25.     PMATIC.X32       The 32-bit version of the PrintOMatic Xtra.
  26.     PMATIC.HLP       The PrintOMatic Xtra's on-line help file. 
  27.     PMATIC.CNT       Table of Contents file for on-line help. 
  28.     -PMATIC.DIR      The PrintOMatic demo movie.
  29.  
  30. The only file that is essential in run-time projects is PMATIC.X32.
  31. If your project uses the PrintOMatic Xtra, you MUST include
  32. this file in an XTRAS folder within the folder your projector is in. See the
  33. Director documentation for more information about Xtras and projector files.

  36. Using PrintOMatic's On-Line Help
  37. --------------------------------

  39. An on-line help file has been provided as part of the PrintOMatic installation.
  40. This help file can be used right alongside Director's own on-line help file as
  41. you work. To use the on-line help file:
  42.  
  43.         Within Director, select the menu item "Xtras -> PrintOMatic ->
  44.         PrintOMatic Help". This will open the PrintOMatic Help file using
  45.         the Windows Help application.

  51. 1.5 Fixed a bug in the Macintosh version that would print the wrong pages if a
  52. specific page rage was selected in the Job Setup dialog. Added protective code
  53. to defend against a Director bug that returns a text size of 0 from text fields.
  54. Recompiled to remedy a bug that botched printing in Windows 95.

  56. 1.5.2 Fixed a bug that caused the Windows version to crash when calling 
  57. setPage 0.

  59. 1.5.3 Fixed a Windows bug that caused problems printing files from disk in 
  60. Windows 95.

  62. 1.5.4 Internal architecture was substantially re-written to bring the code up to
  63. date for Director 6 and Authorware 4;  PrintOMatic now provides limited
  64. functionality in Authorware 4 as well as Director. Changed the reset command so
  65. that the Page Setup and Print Progress settings are not reset along with the
  66. document contents. Added getMargins and getLandscapeMode routines. Fixed a
  67. Windows bug that caused true-color bitmaps to ╥wrap╙ by 16 pixels. Fixed Windows
  68. drawStagePicture bugs in 16- and 24-bit color. Cleaned up some Windows print
  69. dialog code that fixes some printing anomalies (will likely stop printing leaks)
  70. in Windows 95. Changed the installation directory for the product: now ALL
  71. PrintOMatic files are placed into a sub-folder of Director's "Xtras" folder:
  72. "PrintOMatic Xtra" on the Mac, and "PMATIC" on Windows. Updated the help
  73. launcher code to be compatible with both Director 5 and Director 6 Help
  74. applications.

  76. 1.5.5 Fixed a Windows bug that caused setLandscapeMode routines in 1.5.4 to hang
  77. or crash. Fixed a Windows bug that prevented the global print command from
  78. working in 1.5.4. Rolled back to MSVC 2.0 for 32-bit Windows version due to
  79. anomalies in later versions that return a -1 error code when trying to print.
  80. Fixed a bug that prevented the splash screen from going away after the Xtra was
  81. registered. Fixed text alignment problems in drawText in the Macintosh version.
  82. Fixed Windows bugs that prevented adding image files from disk to a document min
  83. 1.5.4. Made PICT opcode error reporting more robust on Windows. Fixed crashing
  84. bugs in 16-bit Windows printPreview with EPS placeholders on the page. Fixed
  85. 16-bit Windows indexed PICT rendering glitches. Updated code to prevent drawing
  86. of PICT cast members on Windows (because Director crashes). Made
  87. drawStagePicture improvements that should reduce visual glitches in printing
  88. from the offscreen buffer.

  90. 1.5.6 Fixed a Windows bug that caused periodic freezing when using append to add 
  91. pictures to frames. Fixed crashing problem with setProgressLoc on Windows. Added 
  92. clearProgressLoc command to reset the location of the progress window to the 
  93. center of the screen. Fixed a Windows opcode bug when converting some 1-bit PICT 
  94. images.

  96. 1.5.7 Added brand-new printStage routine. Added brand-new registration code 
  97. that allows users to enter a serial number from the Xtras menu to register the 
  98. Xtra. Fixed a bug that caused some calls to the global print command to crash.

  100. 1.5.8 Recompiled to fix recurring -1 errors in 32-bit Windows and
  101. other anomalies.
  102.  
  103. 1.5.9 Made the Xtra "Safe for Shockwave" to enable use in Shockwave 7. Fixed
  104. a corrupt message table in the Macintosh version that caused registration
  105. problems, setPageNumSymbol bugs, and other odd behavior.

  107. 1.6 Added support for printing Director 7 Text members directly. Modified
  108. stage-grabbing code for better 16-bit display compatibility.

  111. 1.6.1 Fixed a Windows bug that caused the captured stage image to "wrap"
  112. in 16-bit color depth. Fixed a Windows bug that sometimes caused text characters 
  113. to be dropped at the beginning of pages. Changed instantiation code to allow
  114. for better error trapping when no printer is installed.
  115.  
  116. 1.6.2 Fixed a Windows bug that could cause crashing when printing the 
  117. Stage in 16-bit color.
